WASHINGTON-Human
rights monitoring organization (Human Right Watch/HRW) urged the
Foreign Minister of the United States (U.S.) Hillary Clinton to press
Indonesia related to increased intolerance in religious life. It comes ahead of the visit by urging Clinton to Indonesia.
According to HRW, Indonesia failed to respond to an increase in violence committed by radical Islamic groups against minorities such as Muslims, Shiite and Christian.
"Foreign Minister Clinton should press Indonesia Government to take concrete measures in order to cope with the increase in religious intolerance," said HRW Advocacy Director for Asia John Sifton, was quoted as saying Sunday , AFP (2/9/2012).
"Indonesia will need to acknowledge that the laws and policies have been repressing minority religious groups through violence and discrimination," beber Sifton.
Although Indonesia's Constitution guarantees freedom of religion but considered HRW said, violence against minorities has risen since 2008.
Confirmed also by HRW in some cases violence that authorities particularly disidangkan, convicting those who allegedly failed to engage or punishment meted out to the perpetrators of extremely lightweight.
"Minority beliefs in Indonesia Are not necessarily making someone's life and property are threatened. As a result Foreign Minister Clinton should not overlook this opportunity to hit Indonesia, "stated Sifton.
